Slough's contemporary art gallery hosting free public art exhibitions and events

SLOUGH'S ANSWER TO THE TATE MODERN
Gallery 435 is Slough's only public art gallery. It combines the energy and innovation associated with London art spaces to present some of the best and most challenging contemporary work from local, national and international artists. It was established as a voluntary organization in 2006.

Shows
The gallery holds 4 shows every year. We exhibit a variety of different media including photography, installation, paint and video. The shows are curated to compliment the work on display and are often seen as a piece of art in their own right. Our shows are accessible, engaging and inspiring.

Location
The Gallery uses temporary locations for each exhibition. We regenerated a disused industrial unit for our first two shows and will be occupying a vacant shop unit for Christmas 2006. We want to bring the public to unusual and interesting settings, to awaken their senses and engage them with events rather than present the work in a sterile and austere environment.

Funding
We are funded through the generous support of local corporations such as Slough Trading Estate and Queensmere & Observatory Shopping Centres. Trustees from a business background and artist led curation leads to a solid and sustainable creative relationship. Working independently of local government and public funding schemes allows us complete autonomy.

Free
It is important to us that Gallery 435 shows are free. We believe contemporary art, which is often seen as exclusive and inaccessible, should be available to all.

Publicity & Visitors
Our unique gallery project is attracting media attention across the board. Exposure includes BBC Radio Berkshire, Time 106.6, local press and listings magazines such as The Guardian guide. Gallery 435 attracts visitors from commercial galleries, local business, politics, community groups, higher education and schools.

Communication
Gallery 435 has developed a loyal community who are interested in contemporary art. Our website receives 20,000 hits per month and its rapidly growing email & Myspace membership are notified of forthcoming shows via our regular newsletter. Our recently launched online gallery engages our audience between shows.
