As a part of Slough's annual Fennerfest celebrations (click here for full details of events), we have decided to engage both adults and children alike by asking the question, 'Can under 5's make modern art?'.

Experimentation with the mechanics of paint based art were first explored in the middle of the 20th century. In the early 1960's, Alfons Schilling's work, influenced by american "action painting", slowly evolved into Rotationsbilder (spin paintings); paintings produced on large vertical discs, turning at speeds up to 3 times a second: "I wanted not only that the painter moves, but also the painting". Spin painting then got a new lease of life when Damien Hirst created some enormous pieces in the early nineties.

Ten years later we're resurrecting spin painting in Slough and bringing it to the high street thanks to the generous support of the Queensmere & Observatory Shopping Centres.

All you have to do is come along and we'll allow your children (and maybe even adults!) to make rather large spin paintings. You can even take them home once they're dry.

All this fun is free and is part of the celebration of Slough, orchestrated by our friends at Fennerfest, so come along and have some fun at the shopping centre.

We're also currently in the process of finalising our winter 2006 show. Details will be up here shortly after the Spin Painting. If you want to see what our online artists are up to, visit the Online Gallery - G435 Online.
